Our Estate Planning Process
The First Steps
We understand that creating an estate plan is a lot of work, but our process
is designed in a way to enable you to be confident every step of the way.
We believe our firm provides the perfect combination of efficiency and
warmth. While we will review every step of the process with you, it should
never extend beyond eight weeks. Additionally, your family and assets
could be completely protected within a month of our first meeting.
During the initial meeting, a Long Island estate planning attorney from
the Law Offices of Steven M. Adler, PLLC will walk you through what your
loved ones would need to do and explain how your assets would be distributed
after you pass. You will then be able to decide if there was anything
you would like to change about your current plan or the state's plan
for you. Our initial meeting is a great opportunity for you to decide
if our firm is a good fit for you and your family.
Making the Right Choices for Your Situation
If we are a good fit, our legal team will assist you in selecting the planning
level and fee that is right for you and your family. Our all-inclusive
fees start at $1,500, and there are never any surprise costs. If you have
more complex financial matters, we can help you during a second design
meeting or schedule a
Whole Family Wealth Audit Meeting to address the most difficult financial issues.
Once you feel comfortable with your
estate plan, you will return to the firm roughly four to six weeks later to sign the
prepared legal documents. After the documents are signed, your family and
assets are protected. When the documents are complete, we schedule a legacy meeting
with you to review everything we've created for you and your family.
Additionally, the legacy meeting is where we:
- Ensure your assets are properly owned so your estate plan makes sense
- Make sure your fiduciaries, your children's guardian and your future
heirs know what to do if and when something happens
The Benefits of Hiring a Long Island Estate Planning Lawyer
Although signing the documents would be the end of the process at many
firms, it is just the beginning at ours. We create electronic files of
your legal documents so that you can view them in the future to determine
if you need to schedule a meeting with the Law Offices of Steven M. Adler,
PLLC to update your estate plan. If you do not update your documents and
estate plan, they may not work for your family in the future because the
plans are so outdated. To avoid this problem, a Long Island estate planning
attorney from our firm reviews clients' plans at least every three
years to make sure they are comprehensive and represent their current
wishes, regardless of changes to their estate and family. To learn more
